The Sacred Rites
Four essential acts make up Umrah. Each card walks you through one — with the practical details first-timers ask about most.
Before the boundary
Talbiyah begins
Ghusl if possible, the two white garments for men, ordinary modest dress for women — then the intention, and the talbiyah that carries you the rest of the way: Labbayk Allahumma labbayk. Flying in? Airlines announce the miqat before landing.
7 circuits
Kaaba on your left
Begin at the Black Stone corner and circle seven times, making dua freely in any language — no fixed words required. Afterwards, two rakats and Zamzam water. Upper floors are calmer; the ground floor is closer.
Safa → Marwah
7 lengths
Walk the seven lengths between the two hills where Hajar (AS) once searched for water — beginning at Safa, ending the seventh at Marwah. Men lightly jog the green-lit section; women walk throughout.
Umrah complete
Ihram ends
Men shave the head or trim evenly; women cut a fingertip’s length from the ends. With this, the state of ihram ends and your Umrah is complete. Barbershops cluster near the Haram exits.
Preparation
Checklist
Ihram garments in your hand luggage, comfortable footwear, unscented soap, and patience packed on top. In ihram, avoid perfume, cutting hair or nails, and disputes — keep the heart focused.
Masjid Ayesha
We drive you
Already in Makkah and longing for another Umrah? Exit to the nearest miqat — most commonly Masjid Ayesha at Taneem — assume ihram, and return. Our drivers run this route at every hour and wait while you prepare.
Rite by Rite
The essentials of each rite in one view — for detail and rulings, ask the scholars available at the Haram.
| Rite | What You Do | Where | Key Tip |
|---|---|---|---|
| IhramStart HereThe state of pilgrimage | Ghusl, ihram garments, intention, talbiyah | At or before the miqat | Flying in? Assume ihram before landing |
| Tawaf | Seven circuits with the Kaaba on your left | From the Black Stone corner | Upper floors are calmer for elderly pilgrims |
| Prayer & Zamzam | Two rakats, then drink Zamzam water | Behind Maqam Ibrahim if possible | Anywhere in the mosque counts when crowded |
| Sa'i | Seven lengths between the two hills | Safa → Marwah, the mas'aa | Safa to Marwah counts as one length |
| Halq / TaqsirUmrah Complete | Men shave or trim; women cut a fingertip's length | Barbershops near the exits | Halq (shaving) carries greater reward for men |
In light crowds Umrah takes 2–3 hours; in peak season 4–6. Late night, after midnight, is generally the calmest window. Minor mistakes in the rites are usually excused or simply remedied — ask the scholars available at the Haram, and don't let worry overshadow worship.
